  A Little Bit About Us

Vermont Tree Bones artisans Deb and Joe Gilman have been crafting and working with wood for over 30 years. It all started as a hobby in a small workshop in Guilford Vermont, with cutting, sanding and hand-painting pine Christmas ornaments and decorations. They soon expanded out to wooden cutting boards. Our boards are such good sellers, we started making what you see here, and keep adding new products all the time. Family, friends and customers inspire us with new ideas.

What is shown on our site is available to purchase. The natural colors and grains of the many woods we use are not all the same. No two trees grow the same, so no two boards can be made exactly the same. Some boards are deeper and richer in color; some may have highly figured grains. We hand select our boards looking for the most character.

We will be able to create similar boards in the color combination that you choose. We will gladly email pictures of the boards we have available to make your final choice.

Gram’s pot stirrer came from Gramm Richardson always wanting to get the goodness stirred into a pan. So Gram’s stirrer was added to our unique wooden ware.

These maple napkin rings were crafted out of smaller pieces of wood we could not bear to throw away. Some of the rings replicate bones, thus our name: Vermont Tree Bones.

At our shows, we display and sell our truly one of a kind pieces, like this maple serving board. A friend and fellow craftsman gave us a maple board that had a natural hollow in the center.
After shaping & carving the ends to match the contour of the center, we came up with this one-of-a-kind serving piece. What a beautiful piece of wood Mother Nature gave us to work with.

We offer shipping of your purchase. Our yellow Labrador, Colby, heads up our shipping department and is always willing to resize any box. She loves to work for attention. We ship via US Postal and will gladly quote shipping and handling.

We have done various artisans shows in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York. We are now crafting our wares in Florida and are doing shows in the south.  Here, Joe is adding the finishing touches to our booth at a show in Manchester VT. When you go to our show page, you can link to a show and many promoters offer discounts and chances to win free admission. The show hours and directions are generally available.
